5 Tips For Clearing A Blocked Drain

Blocked drains can be the last thing you want to deal with. They can be a nightmare, causing liquid wastes to leak around your home or business facilities. In fact, when left unattended, a blocked drain can attract a huge repair budget that can cause negative cash flow to your business or disrupt your entire budget for the month. So, it makes sense to prepare for a blocked drain London and around the world all the time. That is why I have prepared this A-list of the 5 useful tips for clearing a blocked drain.

Let’s drill in.

Tip 1; Caustic Cleaner

Caustic cleaners are strong chemical-based cleaners that are effective against mild common blockages. The blockages you can work with a caustic cleaner on include food particles, hair, and grease. You can get a caustic cleaner from a supermarket or the hardware store down the street. Once applied to the blocked drain, the caustic cleaner dissolves all the present grease, food particle, hair, and other mild blockages for easy flow of wastes. One thing to remember though, caustic cleaners are seriously strong and should, therefore, be used sparingly. Also, before application, protect your hands and face tightly and make sure to flush the areas of application thoroughly with water afterward.

Tip 2; The DIYer’s Home-made Cleaner

Recently, DIYers have been able to pull off a new trick by combining vinegar with bicarb soda (baking soda) in the right amount. All you have to do is pour in the baking soda into the blocked drain before adding the vinegar. Once done, close the drain to allow an air-tight reaction between the two agents. This reaction releases oxygen that seriously scours the inside of the blocked drain. Wash the agents away after sometimes and repeat the process for perfect results.

Tip 3; Hydro-jet

Hydro-jets are like duct tapes. They both solve a wide spectrum of technical problems. While it is more advisable to handover this job to the professionals, you can put hydro-jet water to good use and get rid of blockages on your own. All you need to do is grab a hydro-jet and pressure-apply jets of water on the visible blockages for quick and effective removal. For a more effective result, make use of an adjustable high-pressure hydro-jet.

Tip 4; Boiling Water

The power of boiling water transcends scalding the faces of tortured criminals or preparing your frozen chicken for the frying stage. With just one bucket of boiling water, you can make your drainage flow smoothly again. One thing to know though, avoid using this method on PVC pipes to avoid expansion or damages. This method should only be used on ceramic pipes and metals, so take note.

Tip 5; Excavation Works

At times, it’s hard to figure out where the blockages are. In that case, one would need to excavate the earth around the pipes to reveal hidden causes. It may turn out to be a damage in a pipe or something similar in which case a repair will be needed.
