Sydney, A joint statement signed by 22 organizations has labeled Sydney”s poor air quality a public health emergency” that requires urgent government action, as Australian’s New South Wales (NSW) state braces for more smoke and a looming heatwave.
Released by Climate and Health Alliance on Monday, with signatures from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Australasian College of Emergency Medicine, Public Health Association of Australia and 19 other organizations, the statement said there is no safe level of air pollution,” The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
The statement further Hazardous pollution levels were linked to ”premature births, low birth weight babies, impaired lungs developments in children, asthma, heart disease, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and lungs cancer,”

The forecast encourages NSW Health to advise vulnerable groups to plan ahead and stay indoors if possible.
