After the Parkland, Florida school-shooting a student’s movement, March for Our Lives, started. The main agenda of the movement was gun violence prevention. But now the movement has a new platform which it wants the next year’s presidential candidates to think about.
The movement has presented a peace plan, Peace Plan for a Safe America, in which they have given solutions in the six-point plan for alleviating gun violence.
“Gun violence is destroying our generation. This is simply unacceptable. That’s why, as survivors and students of March For Our Lives, we believe it’s time for a Peace Plan for a Safer America,” the group says in its executive summary.
Some of the salient features of this plan are the familiar gun control measures as well as new measures to check the gun lobby. They have also called on Presidential Administration and Congress to adopt its proposals and address the problem.
- Change the standards of gun-ownership.
- Halve the rate of gun deaths in 10 years.
- Accountability for the gun lobby and industry.
- Name a director of gun violence prevention.
- Generate community-based solutions.
- Empower the next generation.
A “Peace Corps for Violence Prevention” known as the “Safety Corps” would place young people in communities and nonprofits around the country with the goals of giving them experience in gun violence prevention and providing those nonprofits with capacity to accelerate their mission.
